An Honest Review of World Racing 2

Throughout my childhood, I only had the chance to play the original Xbox a few times. I remember playing the original Halo and other classic Xbox games that evoked my excitement, including  World Racing. I stumbled upon a copy of the game while browsing Steam recently, and it was on sale. I got a flutter of excitement and purchased the game right away!

Right off the bat I could feel the rush of energy flow through me as the title screen booted up. I started the career mode, and played the first three races in the career mode. It was everything I remembered! From the wacky arcade physics, the ugly looking car models, the Xbox era feeling you get when playing the game.

Then I turned the game off.

Why did I turn the game off? The game is blisteringly hard to play. I am extremely good at racing games, but you have to do everything in your power to prevent the AI from overtaking you. It's absolutely wild that it's so difficult to play the game. I went to our trusty friend, the internet, to see if other people were having the same issues with difficulty, and they were.

Now it's not all a loss, there are a few things you can do to turn down the difficulty if you find the game too hard. Honestly, I toughed it out, continued playing, and practiced until I just got good. Once I had practiced playing the game, I was able to navigate the tracks easier. When you learn how the AI drives, it makes it a little bit easier to navigate tracks. However, you still have to be perfect through every single corner to pass your opponents.

Additionally, an unwritten rule of the game is to draft your opponents to gain a huge speed boost to pass them. I did not learn about this until I was around 20% complete with the career mode.

If you just want to drive cars and go to different locations, then you can always go to the free roam mode. You can free roam every single map in the entire game. It adds a good amount of variety, and the maps are rather large for an early 2000s game.

One incredibly cool aspect is that if you're driving around on the map, and you damage your car, you can drive up to a gas station and fix it. You can also refill your boost if you're going for a top speed run. Another amazing thing is that there's always traffic driving on the maps so if you're just solo driving it feels lively and the world feels like its breathing!

I have a long road ahead of me to beat the game. However, I will do so, especially since I got the game for a cheap price. If you want to find a copy of the game, you can get it on Steam.

Lastly, to arrive at the end of this honest review, the question that has most likely inspired you to read this blog- is the game worth playing? Yes! It's worth every dime, and every second of your attention. Aside from the difficulty, this game will keep you occupied for many hours to come! It offers a vast world of challenges, including fast-paced street racing, off-road rally racing, intense time trials, and much more! Finally, World Racing 2 is a bright, colourful, entertaining, and engaging game that has a little something for everyone!
