FlatOut Ultimate Carnage: A Game of the Past That Defined the Future
When did you realize you loved racing games? For me, it happened when I discovered a new kind of game—FlatOut Ultimate Carnage on the PSP. At that point in my life, I didn't even know computer games existed. Well, I did know about flash games, but I had no idea FlatOut was part of the computer gaming world.
FlatOut was one of the first games that truly exhilarated me. The car crashes, the explosions, the excessive destruction—all of it came together to create an amazing experience that, in my opinion, remains unmatched by today's standards. Even now, the graphics hold up impressively well.
I was amazed by what the PSP managed to deliver with its limited disk space. The game plays just like the PC version. FlatOut Ultimate Carnage features two career modes: the All-Out Challenge mode, where you complete challenges to progress, and the traditional Career mode, where you race your way up the tournament ranks, earning money to buy cars and obliterate your opponents. How often do you get the chance to smash into someone at full speed without consequences? You can’t do that in real life—it’d land you in trouble!
The only two other games I can think of that operate in this exciting spectrum are Burnout and Split/Second. To keep this short and sweet: this game is a must-play if you’ve never tried it before. It’s been updated on Steam to be compatible with modern computers. Just plug in your controller, start the game, and drive!
There are also plenty of mods to enhance the experience. Currently, I’m playing with the Hardcore mod, which removes rubber-banding from the game. It cranks up the difficulty, as the AI becomes relentless—they won’t wait for you in any way.
Right now, during the 2025 Spring Sale, FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is available for just $3.99—an absolute steal for a game that offers countless hours of gameplay. Even after the sale, the regular price of $19.99 is worth every penny. If you love racing games and haven’t played this classic yet, go grab it. You won’t regret it!
